A Green-Labour power-sharing pact on Lewes council collapses over the Greens' 'Zionism is racism' vote, as a senior Green MP is reported warning that thousands are quitting

Deep dive

A short prompt for thinking it through. We write a fuller side-by-side deep dive for the day's biggest stories.

The paradox: A motion passed by members is costing the party councillors and members.

What each side may be protecting: Party members who backed it: Palestinian rights. Those leaving: Jewish members' sense of belonging.

A question to hold: Shared question: what wording would let the party campaign for Palestinians while keeping Jewish members?
