How each side framed it

Left-leaning outlets

Arrests as rare and overdue: 'rare raid against West Bank settlers' (Guardian); 'part of ongoing siege' (WaPo); Haaretz says settlers and the IDF have found 'new methods for removing Palestinians'.

Centre outlets

Centre-rated outlets headline it: “Israeli police arrest 10 over settler attacks on journalist and diplomats in West Bank” (BBC News); “Israeli police arrest suspects over settler attacks on US journalist, European diplomats” (Reuters).

Right-leaning outlets

Arrests as the system working, plus some criticism: Jerusalem Post reports the IDF adding a Border Police company to fight 'nationalist crime'; Daily Caller: 'IDF reportedly ignores hotline for settler violence'. CBS: the US 'lauds Israel'.

Holding the paradox

Agreed facts

Police, the army and Shin Bet arrested 10 suspects after masked settlers beat Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine in Abu Falah. The next day, diplomats from Belgium, France, Poland and the Catholic Church were attacked in Taybeh. US Ambassador Huckabee welcomed the arrests.

Where claims conflict

Whether this marks a change or a one-off: Middle East Eye notes Netanyahu questioned the accounts of the incidents. Defence Minister Katz wants police, not administrative detention, to handle it.

The paradox

It became international news because the victims were Western. Left-leaning outlets note that attacks on Palestinians rarely bring arrests. Right-leaning and Israeli centre outlets note the state did act. Both are true, and together they describe the enforcement gap.
